Following the successful introduction of animated graphics on websites in February, we are now introducing animations in apps to focus a user’s attention on elements that may otherwise be missed and increase delight with general app use.

Careful consideration has been given to where to use animated graphics so as not to distract users. The following graphics will be animated in apps:

• Carbon savings on Journey Planner (pictured)
• Favourites management
• Contactless journeys card management
• Service updates

Consistent with our approach to animated graphics on websites and to maintain accessibility standards, we won’t animate graphics if a user has chosen to reduce motion within their operating system settings.

Users will begin to see animations in apps from version 45, which is going to start being released across app stores from 3rd July 2023, and we will look to add further animations in the future.
