We have been busy improving our Ticket Coverage capabilities to make it easier for operators to communicate mobile ticket validity to their customers. These changes build on the work released in March, which introduced service-based coverages and are summarised below:
1. Operators can now ‘cut out’ portions of an area they have drawn when configuring a Ticket Coverage in Passenger Cloud. This enables donut-style area maps which are handy for operators with concentric coverage zones and tickets that can only be used in the outer zones within that network.
2. Operators can now define multiple areas on the same map when configuring a Ticket Coverage in Passenger Cloud. This helps operators correctly define coverages when a ticket’s coverage does not apply to a single area.
3. Operators no longer need to manually draw maps for Ticket Coverages that apply to specific services. Apps and websites will display coverage maps showing the associated lines based on network data.
4. The Ticket Coverage UI in apps will now always display the Ticket Coverage description so that it can be used to explain the coverage for customers who cannot see the map.
5. The colours used to display Ticket Coverage area maps have been standardised to aid visibility through better colour contrast and to account for the device being in either light or dark mode. These area colours will no longer be customisable from Passenger Cloud, however, custom colours are still applied to the active ticket based on the Ticket Coverage.
As a reminder, accurate Ticket Coverages are important because they help users understand where tickets can be used and they are also used to determine whether a mobile ticket is valid for a journey plan when showing fares in the Journey Planner.
These updates will be released across Passenger Cloud, websites and apps by the end of business on Thursday, 23rd May 2024. The app changes will be available from app version 66. For more information, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
