Migrating Google Analytics for websites to GA4

From Monday, February 13th 2023 we are going to start changing how usage data is recorded in Google Analytics (GA) for operator websites. For operators with a Passenger app and website, we are going to create a new web stream within the GA property used for tracking app usage and start sending website usage data to it.

This change has been prompted by Google’s plans to sunset their previous version of GA ‘Universal Analytics’ (UA) in favour of ‘Google Analytics 4’ (GA4). On 1st July 2023, Google will be turning off sending new data to UA and the only web analytics provided by Google going forward will be GA4.

One of the big advantages of GA4 is that multiple platforms can be inside one property, meaning that iOS, Android and web usage can all be tracked in one single set of reports. It’s even possible to anonymously track user journeys across these platforms. We think this will provide valuable user insights to operators and to Passenger that can be leveraged to help inform future decision-making, which is why we have chosen to manually migrate ahead of Google’s plans to automatically migrate the remaining UA accounts from next month.

Google are currently actively engaging users in an effort to migrate to GA4, we are asking you to please ignore or dismiss these prompts. If you are already using GA4 for website analytics, we will still create a new web stream inside of your app’s GA4 account.

We will continue sending data to UA properties until July 1st, unless you ask us to stop. We will also continue to send data to any existing GA4 web properties for the foreseeable future, unless you ask us to stop.

If you have any questions or if you don’t have access to your Google Analytics please let your Customer Success Manager know and we can set this up for you.
