Improving options and consistency of featured images

We’re making changes to images on the web to give greater flexibility when displaying them.

Images inside of content

We’re adding the ability to add an image in the body content of Pages and Articles. By switching to ‘Rich HTML’, you’ll see the option to add an image at the top of the editor when editing a page or article.

Consistent ratio of featured images

When displaying a preview of content, we’ll now be displaying all featured images at the ratio of 2:1. This will help get the exact look you’re looking for if you upload a 2 by 1 image (1024 by 512 minimum). Images that are taller or wider will fill the space available where possible.

Images inserted into the body content of a page or article will not be affected by this ratio change.

Removing featured images on pages

Currently we display the Featured Image at the top of pages and articles. As editors are now able to put different images in the body text, we will remove the forced image at the top of pages and articles.

Guidelines for images

We still require a minimum of 1024 by 512 sized images so we can use high resolution imagery in the right places, and we’d recommend going higher than that minimum wherever possible, such as 2048 x 1024. We have a maximum upload size of 2mb. Please also check out our advice on images for the web.
